Nagpur Duos to Summit Mt Kilimanjaro this August 15th


MAYANK Mehre and Akash Katole from Nagpur are all set to conquer top of Africa continent on coming August 15th. Mt Kilimanjaro stands at height 19341 feet and is highest peak in African Continent and is one of the 7 highest peaks on 7 continents.

Mayank and Akash will leave India on Aug 8 and will start their journey on Aug 10. Mayank told ‘The Hitavada’ “That they will complete the journey in the five days and will hoist the India’s flag on the peak of the Kilimanjaro on Aug 15 to celebrate the Independence day.”

Duo are preparing the altitude mask training in gym to use the limited oxygen while trekking.

They will start their the Trekking from Zero level (SEA 2 SUMMIT) they will start with some cycling and swimming in Tanzania and will emerge for the summit.

Mayank, resident of Dharampeth, Nagpur and Akash, resident of Manewada are friends from their Engineering at Vishwakarma Institute of Technology (VIT), Pune. 

After engineering Akash went on to do his MBA from IIM Calcutta while Mayank went to IIM Kozhikode. After finishing his MBA from IIM Kozhikode, Being weak in physical in school and college days, Mayank took a resolution to bring about change in his lifestyle and decided to make 2016 as year dedicated to sports. This inspired him to take up running and cycling even more passionately. At the end of year he was strong finisher in 10 races which included few international half marathons, a full marathon, couple of trail runs ,a duathlon. 

Mayank’s view on what he is capable of changed forever from this point. With increasing desire to to push physical envelope even further, Mayank took a resolution to make 2017 a year of adventure and in this quest he has already finished a half ironman race, 200 km cycling race, couple of obstacle races and mountain running, endurance race since January this year. 

Mayank is also training for Ironman Australia which is to be held on 3rd of Dec this year. He is currently trained by 3 times Ironman finisher from Delhi where Mayank is currently working with leading banking and financial company. 

Both Mayank and Akash have been avid trekkers since their college days having climbed several peaks in Sahyadris and Himalayas in India and Bhutan, Nepal. Last year Mayank trekked to Everest Base camp to height of 19000 feet where he got inspired to take even more challenging summit expeditions. Thus was born a lifetime dream of climbing 7 highest of 7 continents for the these two enthusiasts. For the summit expedition Duo has been partly sponsored by Youth Hostel Association.
